Does the name of this game seem familiar to you? If so, it may have something to do with having played another slot machine, called Cave Raiders. That’s right, this Nektan pokie is a follow on from the original, and boy have the brand stepped it up in terms of graphics and gameplay. For those of you who have played with the Nektan company before, you might have seen them do similar upgrades when it comes to their other dollar slots, like Best of British. What started off as a low key themed slot, soon became a more aesthetically pleasing money maker. Here’s hoping Cave Raiders Deluxe has received a similar enhancement, and one that it rightly deserves…

Theme

When we first take a look at the interface, we’re greeted with the typical 3×5 grid, sporting 5 reels. Inside the reels shown, you’ll find that the jungle aesthetic has stayed, only now it looks more vibrant. But not just that, the couple have been made to look a lot more like famous adventurers, with the woman looking like a cartoon version of Lara Croft, and the male now looking more like Indiana Jones.

Even though there’s been much change in how the images look, and some of the sounds that play when we win, there’s no 3D graphics applied here, which means that the design is still flat. Fortunately, we don’t feel they hinder the game all that much. However, seeing as this is meant to be a deluxe version of the game and the adventure theme, we expected to see greater range given to the aesthetic. That being said, Nektan has a specific style that they need to maintain, so perhaps that’s why they haven’t gone too far outside of their comfort zone?

Now that we’ve got to grips with how the symbols on the matrix look, we can now move onto the game features of this one armed bandit.

Gameplay

As we’ve already mentioned, this is a game that has a total of 5 reels, but what we didn’t mention is now there’s up to 1,024 ways to play rather than the minimal 25 winlines of the first title. Due to the size of the matrix now, customers have a lower amount of volatility to deal with, and yet there’s an increased amount of variance. This, in our opinion, is the ideal balance for players, as it gives them more features to play for, yet they won’t be hindered by ridiculously high difficulty levels. As reinforced by the 95.95% RTP.

As for the symbols and their values, the 13 of them have been broken down into two categories. The card suits are the ones that will gift between 2 and 100 credits, depending on how many of the icons you line up, either three, four or five of them. As for the other tiles, the ones ranging from the compass up to the free spins icon, will give you as much as 500 credits.

These aren’t the highest payouts that Nektan has to offer, but they’re a reasonable return for gamers to work towards. However, what we would suggest is that you should wager the lowest amount of 50 coins, rather than the full 250, simply because the fee has no bearing on how many credits you’ll receive back.

Special Features

You’ll have likely spotted the specials for yourself, but we want to fully explain what you get, as the paytable alone might not be enough. When you get between three and five of the free spins icon, you’ll receive between 7 and 15 spins, dependant on the number of tiles you found. These can then be retriggered, should you find more free spins upon the grid, and so you can end up in a loop of free gameplay.

For us, this would be satisfying in itself, but whenever a wild symbol appears on the ways to play, you’ll be awarded with a x2 or x3 multiplier. In regards to the wild specifically, it can only land on certain reels – the second, third and fourth – meaning that they can be trickier to land than the regular tiles.

Conclusion

Cave Raiders Deluxe has been an unbalanced experience for us, and we’re sure it will be for many other gamers. It’s not that it’s a bad slot, but more that there’s not enough diversity to keep us coming back for future helpings. Nevertheless, if we had to choose between this and the first Cave Raiders activity, we would definitely pick and recommend this one, as it’s a generally dynamic experience overall, thanks to the enhanced graphics. If you’ve appreciated what Nektan has done with this title, maybe you’d like to try some of there other online activities, as there’s many other themes catered for.
